THE ART OF WILLIAM T. COOPER
PRESENTED IN ORIGINAL SIZE

Edition Size and Specifications

The Turacos Portfolio by Nokomis Pulblications consists of 23 color plates and is reproduced in an edition of 290 hand numbered sets with an accompanying text by Joseph M. Forshaw and Introduction by Sir David Attenborough. Each plate is reproduced to it's original size of 29.5" x 22.4".

The Portfolio is presented in a beautifully crafted hand made solander box.

Paper Quality

Great care has been taken to choose an appropriate paper which will show Cooper's work to full advantage. A soft white stock of archival quality was chosen, which is acid free, alum and rosin free, and elemental chlorine free, with permanence in excess of 300 years. It has a pH factor above 7.5 with excellent opacity and print qualities, ensuring faithful reproduction of limited edition works and is ideal for art quality reproduction.

Printing

Faithful and exact reproduction of these beautiful watercolors, capturing all the nuances and detail of Cooper's original paintings, required many months of trials.

They have selected a process path best suited to the delicate nature of these watercolors, with emphasis on fidelity, color rendition and resolution while maintaining the artistic feel, warmth and softness of the original watercolors.

To achieve this a 10"x 8" photographic transparency was produced of each watercolor, then digitally scanned on a high resolution machine producing a four color file of yellow, magenta, cyan and black of approximately 200 megabytes. A chemical proof was then produced for review by the publisher, color management and print teams. At this point a decision was made to add two further colors to facilitate the color range and vibrancy of the original watercolors. The selection of the two additional colors was derived through electronic manipulation by the color management team.

Six color plates were produced and transferred to the imaging department where a screen ruling was applied and a further chemical proof produced to allow visualization of the six color image. After approval, plates were made ready for mounting on the printing press.

Once on the press, the four color process balance was achieved and the additional two special colors were run to boost vibrancy and color range. These final and last minute adjustments were made at the time of printing and were carried out by a color consultant, the publisher and the press manager.
